The Journal-News covered the opening of Franklin’s new spray park at Dials Park over Memorial Day weekend. Slides, water cannons, a giant dumping bucket. And, off to one side, an Urben Blu unit.
Every spray park has one detail nobody mentions at the ribbon cutting. Right up until a four-year-old in a swimsuit announces it has to happen now.
Franklin thought about it. The new $600,000 park, funded entirely by a Dial Trust Fund grant, opened with an ADA-compliant Urben Blu unit on site: self-cleaning, vandal-resistant, timed entry, occupancy sensing and emergency alerts. In other words, the part of the project that will never make the front page — and the part that decides whether families come back next weekend.
“This is an area that people and families can make memories,” Mayor Brent Centers said at the opening.
Franklin rings a bell for us: it’s the city officials from Livonia, Michigan called before choosing their own installations.
