Installation of Smart Public Restrooms – EXO Network
EXO is a public transit authority (PTA) that began operations in June 2017. It serves a large and diverse population across the greater metropolitan area through an integrated network of buses and commuter trains.
To improve access to these services, EXO operates several strategically located park-and-ride facilities. It is precisely in these high-traffic environments that EXO identified the need to install smart, self-cleaning public restrooms, providing users with a solution that is simple, durable, and efficient.
The restrooms are used by both bus drivers and transit users, and were required to meet specific criteria, including:
- Self-cleaning restrooms
- Vandal-resistant and anti-graffiti design
- Prefabricated construction
- Gender-neutral layout, promoting accessibility and inclusivity
Beyond the technical features, the structural robustness of the building was a key deciding factor for EXO. Park-and-ride facilities are environments where vandalism can unfortunately be frequent, requiring a design capable of withstanding intensive use and challenging conditions.
Thanks to the use of durable materials, a robust architectural design, and a structure engineered for long-term performance, Urben Blu restrooms proved to be a solution perfectly aligned with EXO’s needs.
Result: the installation of four smart, self-cleaning public restrooms in Chambly, Saint-Basile, Repentigny, and La Prairie, helping to enhance the transit user experience while reducing maintenance challenges and vandalism-related issues for the organization.
